A Shattered Sanctuary
Pebbles were laid down,
Guiding the tributaries
To flow through sluice gates.
Crevices were muttered,
Forming potholes. Edifices
Were brought down
To take the bricks to
Roll on your path.
Did she ever think of me?
Yes, she crafted a beauteous
House for us—
Many dissected
Many exploited
Many obliterated.
But why did you raze me?
I saw myself decorous
A home in a garden full
Of roses, exotic species
Surmounting the natives,
Solar panels lit me nigh
The stream where I lived-
I blossomed; I embraced
You within.
I was your child; you laid
Thorns on my route. Tears
Have desiccated; nothing remains
But dotted pieces, shambles.
A weeping smile, a shattered dream,
Breathing her, without a life to breathe.
