Inka's Curse Part 2: A Phoenix in Winter

As I looked up from the enchanted sword, I could see figures in the distance to my left. Four armed knights on horseback heading my way. They weren’t delighted to discover me. I guess I wouldn’t be heading back home tonight. I wanted to ignore the sword and explain myself to them but then I saw they’ve withdrawn their weapons so I run.

The overgrown forest was behind me. Most likely, I could evade them. Whoever they were would be extremely unfortunate if the shipwreck belonged to them. I couldn’t look like an innocent person wearing their armor and gripping their sword.

I frantically ran not letting the sword go. It was possible the sword understood something I didn’t. For all I knew, they were bandits in disguise or worse. I swiftly ran into the moonlit forest. At some point, I realized the sword was pulling me further into the woods. I was getting rather anxious. Was it leading me to my death? I was a blind mouse in the dark of the night, and it kept getting worse. I felt something wet drop down on me. Swiftly the dreary sky turned furiously against me. Before long snow was pelting me.

“Where are you hauling me?” I tried prying my left hand off the sword. It was affixed tightly. I felt as though I was inevitably going to trip and fall from how fast the sword was jerking me.

The sword was steering me toward the forbidden mountain. I desperately tried stopping it. I thought I halted the sword before scarcely reaching the grassy border. People don’t exit the border except for a selected few the strong that were trained all their lives. I was an unfortunate fisher who knew thoroughly enough that only death could come to the weak like myself.

It stopped because an aggressive creature detected me. It was one of the most savage creatures that lived in the woods. It was a large ice bear that could undoubtedly slay me. I was tempted to play dead but then I saw his nails turn into icicles. I was frozen as he swiftly swung at me. My arms and legs were numb. I thought I was going to inevitably die. As the ice battered me, I enjoyed a warmth coming from the sword that spread over me.

“Why couldn’t you do this earlier?” I had been freezing to death but now I felt regenerated. I desperately fought the bear.

I couldn’t really counter any violent attack from the bear. My armor wouldn’t be much use against a strike. I would have to struggle to inflict any injury with my sword. I’ll easily be torn apart.

The aggressive bear stood upright once it got near to me. The bear growled before its ragged nails turned into icicles again. I sought my best to stab at its heart but missed.

When the bear growled again the burning sword with a mind of its own stabbed through the ice bear’s gut. It struck suddenly, and I withdrew it fast before the bear had a chance to swipe at me. The enchanted sword defeated the bear with its own magic. Where it had struck fiercely exploded.
