Grey Thoughts

Stolen Innocence

I sit after dinner,

Holding my five year

Old in my arms,

Mommy, today at

School we had a drill,

Our teacher locked the

Door, pushed her desk

Into a corner and we

All hid on the floor

Behind it, we weren't to

Make a sound.

Today, a mother in

Ukraine stood behind

A long line, waiting to

Gratefully receive a

Bulletproof vest for

Her six year old child,

A device more precious

Than water.

Carols peal in the

Crowded mall, shoppers

Rushing to buy gifts to

Put under their tree,

Bang! Bang! Screams,

My ten year old son

Grabs my hand, pulling

Me into a dressing room

In a nearby store.

Bombs of war, bullets

Of gunfire, active

Shooters ....

What have we done to

The children of this

World?
